'Brilliant' is an animated short film about acceptance and individuality. An origins story of sorts, the film follows a young boy discovering his incredible and – at times – dangerous superpowers, and his journey to self-acceptance.

The inspiration for this film started with Lachlan Cummins, and his realisation of his own kind of brilliance. His mum, Louise, first explored the idea in 'A different kind of brilliant', a kids book that reframes autism through a lens of accepting our differences. We wanted to continue that theme, inspiring acceptance among a younger generation. But the message itself goes well beyond autism to the larger idea that we all have to discover the brilliance in ourselves.

The film was a pro-bono collaboration between The Works team, Louise, Lachlan, talented illustrator and animator Sean Pointing and production partners RMK, Siren and Squeak E. Clean - many of the team having direct experience and a connection with autism.

The film has screened globally at the New York festival of Cinema, the Edmonton International Film Festival and the Overcome Film Festival. And was recently crowned the winner of the Judges Choice Award at the 'Focus on Ability' Short Film Festival.

The film and accompanying Teacher's resources will be used in schools around the world.
